About the Celtic Connections Conference
The first Celtic Connections libraries conference, organised jointly by the then Scottish Library Association, the Welsh Library Association, the Library Association (Northern Ireland Branch) and the Library Association of Ireland, took place in Peebles, Scotland, in 1995. Following the success of this conference, the four Associations agreed to hold a joint conference every five years, and the second event took place in Killarney, Ireland, in 2001.
The third conference will take place in Cardiff, Wales, from 16th - 19th May 2006. The conference programme will be based on themes of Libraries in a democratic society; Demonstrating the value of libraries; Delivering services in a competitive electronic environment; Celtic culture online; and Reading, language and literacy. Speakers will be announced nearer the time.
The Conference Banquet will be held in the National Museum of Wales on Thursday 18th May. A series of library and cultural visits will be offered.
A Trade Exhibition will be held during the Conference in the Hotel, beside the Conference Room.
