Neil Kinnock confirmed as speaker

Former Labour Leader and EU Commissioner Neil Kinnock is the latest speaker confirmed for the 3rd Celtic Connections Conference. Now Chairman of the British Council, Lord Kinnock will give the keynote address on Tuesday 16th May, 2006.

Other speakers confirmed include Professor José-Marie Griffiths, Dean of Information and Library Studies at the University of North Carolina; Lorcan Dempsey, Vice-President and Chief Strategist at OCLC, and Sandra Ward of TFPL.

Welcome to the weblog for the 3rd Celtic Connections libraries conference. The conference will take place in Cardiff, Wales, from 16th - 19th May 2006. This will be the third conference organised jointly by CILIP Wales/Cymru; CILIP in Scotland; CILIP Ireland and the Library Association of Ireland.

The conference programme will be based on themes of Libraries in a democratic society; Demonstrating the value of libraries; Delivering services in a competitive electronic environment; Celtic culture online; and Reading, language and literacy. Speakers will be announced nearer the time.

The Conference Banquet will be held in the National Museum of Wales on Thursday 18th May. A series of library and cultural visits will be offered.

A Trade Exhibition will be held during the Conference in the Hotel, beside the Conference Room.
